At this moment, while we wait for him to announce his plans for "victory," a word that he says the American people "understand", all of us should be thinking about all the human beings that have died or have been mutilated and all the human beings that are about to die or to be mutilated because of what is behind, or missing behind, the eyes in this photograph. Finally that is the center of the question. This bumbling sociopath might literally be the most empowered instrument of death in history. He appears the closing chapter in the story of a great republic; what he leaves behind him, being neither great, nor even a republic any more. DS
